Sea puddles for Standard Poodles

The other day Babette and I got to run around off leash on a deserted beach. It was so exciting! Everything is exciting for me!!! Anyway, it was a beautiful day - blue sky, hot, low tide and shallow pools of blue water that we ran through and splashed around in.

When we got to the beach today, it was like Poodle deja vu! Unfortunately, we were not the only ones enjoying the perfect summer day, so our human didnt let us off leash because he knows I will run up to other dogs and blaf at them! Ha!

Our walking human walked us through the Poodle puddles on leash. Babette jumped around a bit and I know she wanted to go crazy and run like a galloping Poodle. If only we were off leash. The human managed to take a couple of photos and a small video clip of me walking and looking around but he was scared we'd start jumping around and make him drop his phone camera thing again.

Doesn't the water look so inviting? It's a dog's life!

Can Poodles kitesurf?

We have seen skateboarding and water-skiing animals but would any Poodle be able to kitesurf? Mia and I studied the humans today who were whizzing all over the place at the Big Bay Beach, Bloubergstrand. They wear funny suits and then there are lots of strings and a big flying thing to control.

It looks a bit difficult but the humans look as if they enjoy the water as much as we do!

Sheer Poodle pleasure

We just love summer. Especially when the humans let us run off leash on a deserted beach! The photos were taken yesterday by one of the walking humans.

Sjoe - did we have fun! Mia even took a jump straight into an oncoming wave which is unusual for her. It's normally me who jumps into the deeper water.

A thorough soaking later, we dried off as we walked home - our fur clumping together and going somewhat frizzy (all the better to keep sand locked in so that it drops out for days to come).

Poodle in the wind

You know that famous song by Sir Elton Poodle, Poodle in the Wind? Well, that was us this morning. Here is Babette singing it while we stopped for photos. Check how we look with our hair and ears blowing backwards.

But what a treat to get a full-on walk for the morning weepoo walk. And it's normally only Babette that gets a weepoo walk. I have to make do with the yard. Human mom take note: when you come back from wherever you are (I just know you're not coming home in the evenings), weepoo walks are FUN!

We will sleep a bit now because we are tired.

Is it a bird? Is it a flying metal thingy for humans?

We often see these funny buzzy noisy bird things with weird colourful wings. They buzz up and down our beach when there is little wind. It looks there are humans underneath those bird things. Perhaps the humans have been caught by mutant eagles and are being taken back to the nest to feed baby mutant eagles?

The next time one of the caught humans waves at us we should bark and bark and bark to get someone to try and help us free them!

Me and my Ouma!

This is a photo that my Ouma, (Mia's human) took with her phone camera on our beach walk this afternoon. I think it's a lovely self portrait of me and Ouma, capturing the essence of Poodleness adoring a human.

A morning walk!

This photo was taken a short while after the picture of Mia watching the doves. We were taken for a surprise early morning walk. Of course, at this time we are normally snoozing but seeing as the regular routine was already all over the place what with the humans getting up at 03:00 - why not go for a walk at sunrise?

You can see us admiring Cape Town's most famous landmark.

Winter at the beach

Deserted beaches are perfect for Poodle walks. This is the newly renamed Poodlestrand near Mia's house looking north. If you keep walking in that direction you'll reach Namibia. I think even a Poodle would get tired on that walk!

Poodle Beach

We visit this beach every day and don't see why it shouldn't be renamed from Eerste Steen to Poodlestrand.

Trying to grow a Poodle

My big sister is a funny one. When we went to the beach this afternoon she showed me how to plant a Poodle. It's quite easy really. Dig in softish sand a bit and when it looks deep enough, stick your face in so your ears lie flat on either side. Keep like that for as long as you can and then jump up and run like the wind. I'm not sure how the running bit helps but I tried this today for the first time ever and whilst I'm a bit sceptical about the 'growing a Poodle' thing, it's great fun! I'll post a video for you to see me enjoying a dig.

Haven't been to this beach for a while

This is a lovely beach - and really not a busy one. We used to walk here a lot last year and I love it. So many interesting things to sniff on the beach. Often I find dry sand sharks and perlemoen meat. It drives the humans wild when I grab a sand shark and zip off across the beach. I think they think I'll get sick or something. Not sure why the humans stopped coming here with me.

The weather is beautiful today, so I asked my human to take this photo of me on the beach with Table Mountain in the background. Where we live in Cape Town we have the picture postcard view of our famous landmark.

If this photo was scratch and sniff, you'd smell that I am sporting citronella essential oils to try and keep the fleas at bay. I smell like an outdoor candle! If you notice that the horizon tilts to the left blame the human photographer, not the subject matter.

Rough and tumble in the sand

There is nothing Mia and I love more than to run around the beach together. We Poodle box, jump, chase and very often run into the breaking waves. The humans have to deal with sand in the home for days afterwards.

We love winter beach walks

Winter is great for beach walking. Not only is there an air of drama with the turbulent weather and choppy ocean but the beach is normally deserted. This means that Mia and I can run and run and run - into the dunes, down to the surf (where we get green foam-goo all over ourselves) and back into the dunes.

It's not unusual for us to find some tasty morsel to eat and this just drives the humans wild with them not knowing what we're gulping down or crunching on.

Anyway, this is Mia and I with my dad - taken on the Big Bay beach yesterday afternoon.
