Cappello Restaurant, Eden On The Bay.

UPDATE: Apparently the angry or disappointed humans that commented here have been in the majority, as this place is now closed. Even our humans stopped going there due to the bad service for humans. Was fine for us dogs though!

Last Saturday, during our regular beach walk in the afternoon, it started to really pour down. This isn't the first time we've been caught in the rain. As we have nice thick coats that are pretty water resistant, Mia and I really don't mind it when it rains but our human pack don't seem to fare so well for some reason.

Before we really got soaked, we made it to Eden On The Bay, the new shopping centre and apartments that have been built in Bloubergstrand's Big Bay. We walked around a bit and finally stopped near an open door watching the pouring rain. After a minute or two, we were asked to come and sit inside Cappello Big Bay, an Italian style restaurant. The nice gentleman that offered us a seat in the warmth said that they are dog friendly!

How lucky for us Poodles and our human pack! In the future, we'll make sure we visit the nice man and his pet-friendly establishment in the future.

The photo is of Eden On The Bay taken as you come off the beach. Cappello is at the very left side, ground floor (with amazing views of Cape Town and Table Mountain).

  2. Capellos in Big Bay has the worst service I have ever experienced at any restaurant in my entire life.

    1. We tell the waiter that a glass is dirty - he tells us to drink from the bottle
    2. He plainly ignores our orders
    3. He ads a service charge to the bill - for a table of 5 with a bill of R500, when restaurant policy states that he's only allowed to ad a service charge for tables of 6 with bills of R600 or more.
Thus he doesn't have to deliver good service - he'll get a tip anyway
    4. We pay the bill and tell him "Thanks, we'll never see you again" - which he responds to "I don't care, I'll get more people"
    5. We complain to management - Who don't really care, and most probably didn't do anything about it. It's actualy management's responsibility.

The restaurant is at a busy tourist spot, which means that they'll have lots of clients in tourist season - but in the slow season the locals have to carry the costs.
By pissing off the locals with terrible service and horrible food - the restaurant won't survive.

I'm not happy at all. I'm not one who complains. This is the first ever formal complaint I have ever writen. I am just disgusted with how this was handled.

    1. Hi Dirk, i cant really comment on this restaurant service as I've never really been there but would like to comment on the service charge.I'm a single mom and have been working in the industry for years. Most of us waiters don't get paid a salary or anything and if we do the maximum that we get paid per hour is R15, so we really deepend on this tip.I've worked at a very well established restaurant in the CBD and I promise you here we worked for our money.W e would serve tables all night, running up and down, trying to keep the smile and doing everything to make our diners weel welcome and comfortable in able for them to come back but at the end of the night their bills would come to R1000+ and the won't even leave you a tip and if they do it would be something like R5 or R10.So the manager advised us to add 10% service fees to the bill no matter how little in order for us to go home with something at the end of the night.I agree with you as I also dont like giving a good tip when the service was bad but because I know what these waiters go through I always give them 10% of the bill. Some of these guys do it for something extra to provide for their families and for some its their only income. If the waiter was rude and the restaurant manager didn't try and solve your problem then I'm fully on your side but please don't take their tips away. Thanks

  4. Cappellos in Big Bay is the worse thing to ever happen to me, first day of 2012 my friends are I went there for lunch, it took 58 minutes for our simple food (Pizza, Ribs, Burger), the waitress did not bother to come check on us during that wait. When we finally asked her what was the progress, she told us we were wrong, she knows how long it's been. Our onion exclusion request was ignored and were told by the waitress that she does not make the food, she just orders it. The ribs we ordered were microwaved and sauce poured over them, we had to call the manager and ask for them to be sent back. Drinks we ordered were never delivered.

as a goodbye the waitress told us, "In this shop, the customer is never right".
